Things to do Czech Republic

Prague

Located on the Vltava River in the centre of the Bohemian Basin, Prague (also known as Zlata Praha) is the capital city and the economic centre of the Czech Republic. Mainly oriented towards tourism activity, Prague is one of the most popular toursitic destinations in Europe, offering to its visitors one of the world's most pristine and varied collections of architecture, from Art Nouveau to Baroque, Renaissance, Cubist, Gothic, Neo-Classical and ultra-modern. In 1992, the historical core of the city was listed in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Register. In addition to its architectural treasures, Prague's cultural life is very rich. Throughout the year, world-famous festivals, prestigious exhibitions, theatrical performances, concerts and other activities regularly take place.

Prague Castle

Prague Castle is the largest medieval castle complex in Europe and one of the biggest castles in the world (570 meters length and 130 meters wide). It was the ancient seat of Czech Kings throughout the ages, and the residence of the president of the Czech Republic since 1918.
The first known edifice was risen up on the 9th century but several destructive wars, invasions and fires (and further reconstructions) have combined to create an intriguing and fascinating mix of palaces, churches and fortifications. This made of the Castle Prague's most important touristic attraction and the symbol and living legend of the city.

Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge is a stone Gothic bridge that connects the Old Town and Malá Strana. Its construction was commissioned by Czech king and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV and began in 1357.
This magnificent structure is one of the Prague’s finest attractions, and is the main pedestrian route connecting the Old Town with the Lesser Town (Mala Strana) and Prague Castle.
There are now 75 statues on Charles Bridge, but most are copies, as floods and catastrophes over the centuries damaged the originals. The most interesting, as well as the oldest one, is the St. John of Nepomuk statue as it is said that touching this statue will make one wish come true.

Vyšehrad

Located on a hill over the Vltava River, Vyšehrad is the oldest castle in Prague. Called the "Castle on the heights", it offers to visitors one of the most beautiful urban panoramas of Prague and the Vlatva River, but also some magnificent monuments, such as the fascinating gothic church of St Peter and St Paul, or the Romanesque Rotunda, the oldest and largest rotunda in Prague.

Prague Towers

Prague Towers : The most wonderful views of Prague are offered by antique towers  and more than 100 of them are scattered all over the city. The most famous is the Old Town Bridge Tower of the Charles Bridge that is considered as the finest Gothic tower in central Europe. But the Powder Tower, located on the east side of the old town square, is as much important as the old town bridge tower as it leads to the Royal Route which conducts to the Old Town over the Charles Bridge to the castle up the hill.

Ceský Krumlov

Český Krumlov is a unique architectural jewel listed as a world cultural heritage site by UNESCO since 1992. Nestled in a bend of the Vltava River, Český Krumlov offers to tourists all at once: the charm of a medieval town and the wealth of its large and beautiful castle, the second largest in the country after the castle of Prague. The St. Vitus Cathedral, a major original Gothic achievement of South Bohemia, is the dominant feature of the city. An atypical atmosphere reigns in the streets also thanks to the numerous cultural events that have already gained fame all over the world: the International Music Festival, the Ancient Music Festival, the exhibitions held in the International Egon Schiele, the Celebrations of five-petalled rose.

Šumava National Park

The National Park of Sumava is the largest national park in Czech Republic. The site covers over 600 square kilometers of spruce tree forests, bogs and other wetlands, glacial lakes and meadows rich of flowers. It is a privileged place to relax or walk. The many hiking trails offer the opportunity to admire the Czech fauna and flora.
The National Park and the protected natural area of Šumava are located in southern Bohemia close to the city of Český Krumlov. Protected since 1963 and classified biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1990, the park houses some natural jewels including some protected species such as lynx, caterpillars, black grouse, Urals owls and European elk.

Český Krumlov Castle

Nestled on a hill overlooking the city, the Český Krumlov Castle constitutes one of the iconic monuments of the city of Ceský Krumlov and the second largest in the Czech Republic. It is connected to the rest of the old town by a steep road and a bridge across its ancient moat.
After the main gate, a set of successive courtyards decorated with sgraffito and wall paintings leads to a Baroque theater and lush gardens where are preserved a Rococo fountain, and a pleasure pavilion holding theatrical performances during the summer.
The castle have a medieval tower adorned with paintings, however, the largest part of the buildings was restored in a baroque and rococo styles.
Inside the fortress, the "Hall of Masks" is one of the most representative pieces of the splendor of the past. The ballroom is ornamented with paintings in “trompe-l'oeil” created by Josef Lederer in 1748.
