Things to do Malta
Valletta
Valetta, the Maltese capital, is one of the best preserved fortified cities in the world and a jewel of the European architecture. Built on a plateau between two harbours on Malta's northeast coast, the city’s main purpose was to fortify the island and to provide lodgings, churches and gardens for the eight Knight's groupings. Valetta is today known for its XVIth century’s architectural heritage, making it one of the world’s earliest UNESCO World Heritage sites and an unmissable seaside tourist destination. In spite of being very tiny (less than 1 sq kilometre), the city boasts a great architectural interest. Shady atmospheric alleyways link grand squares, and glorious baroque Palazzi sit alongside bars and shop fronts that remained almost unchanged for over a century. Moreover, Valetta offers both perfect places to hold flawless business meetings and conferences, and ideal setting matching with incentives. An English speaking environment facilitating good communications, endowed with hospitable people, makes Malta a safe and perfect destination for your conference, sales meeting and incentive trip.
Grand Harbour malta
One of the most beautiful natural harbours in Europe and the greatest in the Mediterranean Sea, le Grand Harbour is the most important geographic feature of Malta. This important site played a key role in the world’s history after being occupied by the Knights of Malta and then by the British Navy until 1979. Used since at least Phoenician times, today it is an important sight thanks to the spectacular views and the diverse activities it offers. The harbour is surrounded by numerous attractions such as six formidable citadels and several fascinating museums.
Castello dei Baroni
Castello dei Baroni located at Wardija was Baronial hunting lodge, built in 1783 during the Order of St.John of Jerusalem. The medieval castle has graciously maintained most of its original structure thanks to a carful restoration. Today, it is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in the island thanks an impressive display of ancient objects. This unforgettable setting also provides a medieval reception hall, often used for private and corporate events from all over the world. Castello dei Baroni is the ideal backdrop to any special event such as receptions, conferences and concerts.
Castello Zamitello
Built 300 years ago by the wealthy Baron Bernardo Zamitt, Castello Zammitello is an impressive fortress that contributed to the rich history of Malta. Lying on the outskirts of the village of Mgarr, the castle was formally used as a guard against sudden raids by corsairs. Today the Norman Style building with its lush gardens provides a conference centre and reception area for any corporate or private event. It also houses a valuable feudal art museum.
The Museum of Archaeology
The Museum of Archaeology, housed in the Auberge de Provence, showcases an impressive collection of artefacts dating back to the island’s Neolithic period. Collections include prehistoric tools, representations of animals and some human figurines. A number of jewellery from the prehistoric, megalithic and temple-building periods are featured, as well as some Punic and Roman tomb furniture. In addition, the museum will soon include the Bronze Age, Phoenician, Punic, Roman and Byzantine period collections on the Upper Floor.
