2009, a year of celebration for Berlin

November, 9th 1989. The Berlin Wall, which split the city in 2 during nearly 30 years, fell

20 years later, the celebration of this historic episode puts the destination in the spotlight and gives a good reason to rediscover Berlin, thanks to so many events and exhibitions. The dynamic German capital city has also seen a lot of hotel openings in 2009: the andel’s Hotel Berlin (557 rooms and 3, 800 sq m of event spaces) or the Leonardo Royal Hotel Berlin (346 rooms and 10 conference rooms) where the Art Deco style of the building erected in 1930 has been attractively preserved in the lobby. The Ellington Hotel boasts one of the most beautiful facades of the city and was the venue of one of the most famous Berlin dance halls of the 20’s. The establishment offers 285 rooms and its Femina ballroom can receive up to 600 people. For an original event, The Hollywood Media Hotel, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, recreates the glamour of Hollywood in its 182 rooms and 9 meeting facilities. Bigger events are also catered for: the Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz is the city’s largest hotel and offers 1,012 rooms spread over 37 floors, as well as 11 meeting rooms including a ballroom for up to 320 people. On the conference side, the International Convention Center Berlin (ICC) just received the World Travel Award’s Leading Congress & Convention Centre prize for the fifth consecutive times. For MRCongress and Incentives, who organizes events and meetings, Berlin is a multifaceted city which combines an historical side, and a lesser known underground and artistic one which can be an original way to discover the city.  The environmental issue is also very important in Germany. In order to help meeting planners organise eco-concerned events, the Berlin Convention Office launched a few weeks ago Berlin Green Meetings, a website offering an overview of environmentally-friendly providers for conventions, meetings and incentive trips.
