Are you the smartest meeting professional?

A challenging question asked to the enthusiastic participants of the last MPI Southeast Education Conference (SEC) a few days ago in Florida.

Created by Jennifer Juchno, Senior account executive from the Renaissance Tampa International Plaza, this quiz was inspired by the TV show “Are you smarter than a 5^th grader?” Given that interactivity increases learning and retention by 40%, the MPI organizers, supported by the SpotMe technology to conduct live polling, decided to boost the interactive, educational component of the event.

This particular quiz presented different levels of difficulty and varied topics, from food and beverage, to technology, staff, accounting, and seating arrangements. Among the questions meeting planners were invited to answer: You are working with a new co-worker who has only been planning for a short amount of time. She asks you what the “6 x 6” rule is. How do you answer? What do you call a clause in an agreement that excuses performance in the event that makes the performance impractical or impossible? This method proved to be a successful way to optimize learning and improve the attendee experience.

The 2010 MPI SEC gathered the four Florida chapters at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs to create business opportunities and exchange knowledge through educational sessions such as creating a sales and marketing plan, customizing Facebook and Twitter for business, starting a business and more.…
