Barceló gets a green thumbs-up in Mexico

Two Mexican establishments of the Spanish hotels group Barceló have just earned the Certified Gold Status from Green Globe which rewards and recognizes their environmental involvement.

At the Barceló Maya Beach Resort, in Riviera Maya, guests are invited to be considerate towards nature by consulting information about protecting the local environment posted around the complex and they can find advice in an ‘ecological information hut’ in the hotel where they can learn how to respect Mother Nature. Guests are also encouraged to re-use towels and sheets rather than requesting fresh towels daily. The complex also boasts a 3 200 square-foot vegetable garden, “La Huerta del Chef”  - the « Chef’s Garden » -, where 10 different types of chilli peppers are grown. As for the Barceló Huatulco Beach Hotel, they support community events by providing meeting rooms free of charge for local associations and also donate to charities and organizations. The hotel also built a warehouse for the storage of hazardous materials. Wildlife is also a priority: during sea turtle season, both of the resorts protect nesting sites.
