China offers MICE ‘great opportunities’

Source: www.ccncchina.comThe 2011 China and Asia Meetings Industry Research report concludes that China offers MICE “great opportunities” in its national, regional and international markets. Produced by Reed Travel Exhibitions, the report is a compilation of opinions from industry professionals including buyers and suppliers.
Among the results, the report shows that China has “huge potential with predictions that the sector is a $150 billion market with annual growth of 20%”. Furthermore, the 2011 increase of inbound international events in Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Taiwan indicates a growing interest in the region.
Over 56% of respondents expressed interested in Beijing, the capital, as an area of interest for future business, with the highest percentage of 38% of suppliers state that they would consider China as a potential area for growth, compared to North America 18%, and Asia-Pacific 17%.
While the report’s outlook has been mostly positive amidst the current economic projections for certain parts of the world the next 12 months, some challenges has been identified in the fields of passport and visa issues, with focus on CSR and environmental issues, a significant increase from the previous years.
