Durban’s ICC signed for green
06/01/2009 South AfricaSince early 2008, the International Convention Centre of Durban, South Africa, has been a member of the Heritage Environmental Rating Programme
This is a new way to conceive events for ICC, which must take on green initiatives, according to the Programme’s principles. These initiatives fall into the categories of resource management, human resource development, procurement practices and marketing and operational performance. Heritage not only helps the centre itself, but also the events organized in Durban, to go greener. Tourism Indaba 2008 (May 10 th to 13 th) was the first exhibition at ICC Durban to have been coached by Heritage and to have respected the principles it sets forth for meeting organizers: to make environmental objectives a high priority, allow sufficient time to ensure the objectives are realized, incorporate existing environmental management systems, and to educate participants and the public about environmental issues.
