The international actors of the meeting industry are converging to Fira Gran Via in Barcelona for the new edition of the global meetings & incentives exhibition beginning today

Worldwide planners will be meeting about 3,000 suppliers at the show, (including the Events Services Village) coming from 100 countries, in a city which is making headlines with the recent opening of the W hotel and the Mandarin Oriental, the renovation of the Palace and the hosting of the last European society of cardiology congress (32,000 delegates). Extending its opening times by one hour this year, the show is enabling longer networking opportunities. EIBTM 2009 also boasts a large educational programme, comprised of more Spanish-speaking seminars targeted to the local market. The Industry Trends & Market Report and the next generation of meetings are some of the issues discussed with the major associations as MPI, SITE, PCMA and ICCA. ICCA has also set up the Forum for Young Professionals, aiming to meet young talents of the industry. The exhibition also features other relevant rendez-vous such as the Worldwide Technology Watch focusing on Pathable, an online community and social network for conferences and events; the hosted buyers programme, the Technology hours, the agency and association programmes; and of course the EIBTM Awards ceremony.
