FIFA 2010 World Cup: South African airports in the starting-blocks
06/10/2009 South Africa
South African airportsTHE First African country to host the sportive event, South Africa lefts nothing to chance and prepares itself to receive the half a million visitors expected during the competition
The airports are on the front line, as they represent the first contact of the visitors with the country. In order to handle the passenger influx, the AirportsCompany South Africa (ACSA), which operates 10 of the country’s airports, concluded a contract with SITA, an international aviation information technology and communications specialist which already prepared Beijing International Airport for the 2008 Olympics. This collaboration will permit to improve agent check-in and passenger self-service kiosk check-in. The program immediately benefits the 3 international airports in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town and the local one of Port Elizabeth: a new check-in system has already been installed at O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and a new terminal will open in November at Cape Town International Airport.
