Considered as Australia’s art and cultural hub, the capital city of the state of Victoria, in the South of the country, is a vibrant and pulsating cosmopolitan destination which gathers numerous amenities for meeting planners
The most important of them is the Melbourne Convention andExhibition Centre (MCEC) which has just opened a new centre linked to the existing sites. This brand-new part offers an impressive view of Melbourne thanks to its 18 m tall glass façade and boasts a foyer which can accommodate up to 8,000 guests for cocktails as well as a 5 000-seat Plenary Hall and various meeting rooms. The city is also about to welcome one of the biggest hotels of the country: the contemporary CrownMetropol will open in early 2010 just in front of the MCEC, including 658 rooms and large spaces for meetings. Another kind of atmosphere reigns at the 5-star Hotel Windsor, which faces the Parliament House. It was built in1883 and celebrated its 125 th anniversary last December. The establishment boasts 180 rooms and a grand ballroom gathering up to 400 guests for cocktails. Various cultural places are also available for dinners or receptions such as the Melbourne Museum which can receive 2,000 guests or the Parliament House, one of Australia’s oldest and most architecturally distinguished public buildings. For a more original tour of Melbourne, the Colonial Tramcar Restaurant invites visitors to discover the city while dining on board the historical trams (108 guests).
