Great expectations for the Gulf Meetings Week 2010

Following its past success, the Gulf Meetings Week 2010 kicked off Sunday with the Big Market Knowledge Exchange facilitated by Didier Scaillet (MPI) and Martin Sirk (ICCA) studying the “meeting reality and potential in the Gulf region”.

An expert event for meeting planners to share the latest frontline market intelligence, exchange on key topics concerning the region described by Didier Scaillet as the “new centre of gravity for the global meetings industry, at the crossroads of East and West”. As the Gulf region has been so difficult to read, according to Martin Sirk, the new edition of GIBTM held at ADNEC Abu Dhabi from the 29^th until the 31^st March has been highly anticipated and is certainly the largest gathering of meeting planners in the area. Even though the discovery of Dubai World’s debt was a shock for the emirate, Dubai remains the most popular destination of the area for meeting planners ahead of Egypt and Abu Dhabi. The Gulf is constantly increasing the number of its expansion projects such as the future ICC in Qatar, the new Crowne Plaza hotel in the heart of one of the UAE’s most exciting developments, Yas Islandon Abu Dhabi Yas Island, and many more.
