HKCEC welcomes 35 new exhibitions and major conferences in 2012 Expanding annual event portfolio of over 1,200

06/02/2012 HKCEC HKCEC

(Hong Kong, 6 February 2012)     The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (“HKCEC”) is celebrating an excellent start to 2012, having scheduled five new exhibitions and 30 major conferences for the coming year. This successful business expansion is a direct result of the focused business development and world class services provided by the venue’s professional private management company, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Ltd (“HML”), despite keen competition from new and expanding venues in Hong Kong and the surrounding region, as well as stern challenges arising from periods of global economic turmoil.

This is on top of the around 100 annually recurring anchor exhibitions it will once again host, including 11 which are the largest of their kind in the world or in Asia. In addition, organisers are expected to select the HKCEC as venue for more than 1,000 corporate functions, banquets and entertainment events over the coming year.

The 30 major conferences are expected to bring over 30,000 delegates, experts and government officials from all over the world to Hong Kong and the HKCEC.  These conferences cover a diverse range of topics, from medical science, dentistry, clinical pharmacy and yoga to bridge and tunnel construction, acoustics, finance and engineering.  Of the total, 15 are international conferences and six are new to the HKCEC.

The2012 FDI Annual World Dental Congress” has chosen the HKCEC as venue for its centenary event, to be held from 29 August to 1 September 2012. The conference is expected to attract around 10,000 oral health professionals to the city.  The Congress will be celebrating its 100th edition in Hong Kong, making this event an extremely important occasion when nearly 140 national dental associations will gather at the HKCEC to decide on global policy for the profession and share the latest industry developments.

The five new exhibitions clearly demonstrate the remarkable diversity of events that HML successfully caters for, focusing respectively on LOHAS living, Indian property, antiques, frozen food, and diving and resort travel.  These exhibitions are organised by five different organisers, three of which are based in Hong Kong and the other two in the United Arab Emirates and the USA.  Four of them are organising exhibitions at the HKCEC for the first time. Almost all will benefit from HML’s attractive incentives for low season and new launches.

The HML team’s professionalism and dedication have helped create an impressive track record, for instance by regularly winning the “Asia’s Best” title for the HKCEC venue and by gaining a recurring vote of confidence from international event organisers.

Mr Stuart Bailey is General Manager of Diversified Events Hong Kong, a US-headquartered company that is organising “Frozen Food Asia”, which will be launched in September 2012.  “We have developed a close partnership with HML team since our company started our first event ‘Restaurant and Bar Hong Kong’ ten years ago,” says Mr Bailey.  “Since then, we have successfully launched two other new ventures.  I have full confidence in the ability of the HML team to provide high quality services allied with flexibility to meet the growing demands of our exhibitors and buyers, as our company continues to expand its presence in Hong Kong.”

Ms Monica Lee-Müller, HML’s Deputy Managing Director, said, “At HML, we aim to build close business partnership with our event clients.  We offer powerful incentives to attract new events and encourage continued growth of recurrent exhibitions.  It is gratifying to see such a successful start to 2012.  The new events and their organisers from around the world are certainly a welcome addition to the HKCEC’s strong event portfolio.  We are proud of our role in actively bidding for high profile events for Hong Kong, and serving millions of attendees,” added Ms Lee-Müller.

1)         The professionalism and dedication of the HML team has seen the HKCEC receive the accolade of “Asia’s Best” regularly, and won confidence from international organisers.

2)         Confidence in the ability of the HML team to help their events grow and to enhance the experience for exhibitors and buyers was an important reason why Diversified Events decided to put down roots in Hong Kong.
