How to turn green

“It is the firm belief of all partners that the meetings industry must create a more sustainable path, if it is to continue to validate its societal license to operate, deliver value to clients and provide good returns on investment to its stakeholders”, says Steen Jakobsen, Convention Director at Wonderful Copenhagen Convention Bureau. This green path will take the attention of delegates during a dedicated session.

Setting aside the discussions around sustainable operations, this session will instead focus on the facility design component and what the options and differences are. The session will draw from a panel of design experts to compare standards and their implications as well as lay out the state of play and the cost of playing in the sustainable design game.

The 2010 AIPC conference host city is a green model: ACC Liverpool along with the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre (MCEC), and the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) gave birth last year to a new era for green meetings with the creation of the Global Green Alliance. Copenhagen is also a very good pupil in terms of sustainability, exhibited by the elaboration of the Global Protocol for Sustainable Meetings established after COP 15 (read the article) written by Guy Bigwood, MCI Group's Sustainability Director and Green Meeting Industry Council President (Read the interview).
