01/03/2010 Four Seasons

Capital city of Lebanon, Beirut can be considered as the cultural epicenter of the country, with its blend of history and cosmopolitan flair, as well as its mix of new and old architecture.

The Old Town has been restored and offers now numerous hotels, restaurants, shops and cafes to which Beirut owes its nickname of “Paris of the East”. The hotel sector has grown during the last months with the opening of two establishments in the city. Le Gray, a luxurious contemporary hotel built in the historic heart of Beirut, offers a modern architecture and boasts 87 guestrooms and suites, a rooftop swimming pool, a spa and a 12-people boardroom. Four Seasons took up residence in the city last month with the opening of its first Lebanese hotel, The Four Seasons Beirut. Built in a stunning high glass tower soaring above the sea, the hotel’s philosophy lies in the Lebanese legendary hospitality with its perfect and dedicated service, and is composed of 230 guestrooms and various meeting spaces, from the Executive room to the Grand Ballroom. Many hotels also provide conference facilities like the Phoenicia InterContinental Beirut (480 guestrooms) and its Grand Ballroom which can cater up to 2 000 guests, the Mövenpick Hotel & Resort Beirut (292 guestrooms and 11 rooms and outdoor venues), or the Royal Beirut (231 guestrooms and a 700 sq m ballroom) with a stunning view of the Mediterranean coast. For larger events, the Beirut International Exhibition and Leisure Center (BIEL) boasts up to 15 000 sq m of exhibition space, 1 200 sq of multi-purpose conference halls (9 000 guests) and a Pavilion Royal with a 56 m glass façade overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. To discover the city and its history, what better than a visit to the National Museum and the Beirut Archeology Museum, where antiquities from Lebanon’s past can be observed without forgetting the ruins of the Roman Baths near the Grand Serail.
