MPI“Deliver the knowledge and connections needed to be successful in challenging economic times” was the purpose of the 2009 WEC says CEO Bruce McMillan
MPI thus convened meeting planners at the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center last July (11 to 14th). This year, due to the global context, fewer people could afford the travel and that’s why MPI made the most of the educational programme available to people who stayed at their office through live video sessions and pre-conference webinars. As education is a priority for the association, a CMP boot camp was organised for attendees who wanted to take the Certified Meeting Professional exam. Sustainable development also remained one of the main issues discussed during the sessions and conferences through topics such as: how does a business become certified as sustainable; CSR: incorporating philanthropic elements into events... Other highlights punctuated the event, like the MeetingPlace: the WEC trade show, MPI Rise awards and the 25th anniversary of the MPI Foundation which invests a large part of its money raised into the global meetings & events industry, etc. Next meeting place: Vancouver in summer 2010.
