With 47.5M visitors expected by the end of the year, a 4.2% increase over 2009, NYC proves its prominent position in the tourism industry for 2010.
A great achievement for the Big Apple which should host 50 million tourists annually (both leisure and business) by 2012. A great opportunity for the city, given that the tourism industry represents $30 billion in direct spending across the city.
NYC totalizes today an amount of 75,000 hotel rooms and has been developing a large number of hotel projects: 5,000 new bedrooms are expected between June and December. A key asset to attract the business clients coming essentially from UK, Canada, Germany, France and Italy. Among the new hotels, let’s mention some, which opened their doors last summer such as the Andaz 5th Avenue from Hyatt, offering in its 144 bedrooms a loft spirit reminiscent of the old historical New York. Its apartment 2E can welcome 400 guests “comme à la maison” as well as a studio dedicated to any kind of event. You can also find the W New York downtown (688 bedrooms), the InterContinental Times Square (607 guest rooms), the Sheraton Brooklyn, or in another style, more boutique, the Mave Hotel (72 rooms), conveniently located next to Midtown business centers.
Other event venues can welcome delegates such as Good Units, a new 2,000 sqm event space within the Hotel Hudson. A passage from the thrilling New-Yorker life to the low-slung atmosphere of the hotel, in the basement of the hotel.
For a gigantic and mythical event, why not choose the 175,000 sqft Piers 92/94, the Madison Square Garden, the splendid Radio City Music Hall or the Lincoln Center for performing arts and arty events. Without forgetting the Jacob K Javits convention center: one of the largest venues in the USA with 100 function rooms.
In terms of incentives, many options are available in the city that never sleeps from a visit of the MOMA and the MET to the Empire State Building, the Brooklyn Bridge and to a greedy break at Carnegie Deli for a traditional New York cheesake followed by a show on Broadway. The city is yours to discover.
