Qatar woos MICE professionals at IMEX in Frankfurt

02/06/2010 Qatar Tourism Authority Qatar Tourism Authority

QTA showcases Qatar’s convention and meetings facilities at the Worldwide Exhibition for Incentive Travel, Meetings and Events from May 25 - 27.

Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) takes part in the Worldwide Exhibition for Incentive Travel, Meetings and Events (IMEX), a top global trade exhibition focused on incentive travel and exhibitions. The exhibition opened today in Frankfurt and runs through May 27.

“Our tourism strategy is based on a business-oriented model, combined with unique, upscale leisure attractions,” said Mr. Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority. “Our participation in IMEX over the past years has provided us a good boost in this sector, as we deepen existing relationships with MICE buyers in Europe and build new connections with others. The outlook in this industry is returning after a difficult period, evident in the increased numbers of participants at this year’s exhibition and the increased number of hosted buyers. There is great business potential for our Qatar-based tourism partners here and we look forward to positive outcomes.”

Accompanying QTA is a delegation of main stakeholders from the meetings sector in Qatar, including executives from the Qatar National Convention Centre and Qatar MICE Development Institute to showcase what makes Qatar a unique MICE destination in the region. Also exhibiting with Qatar Tourism Authority are major hotels and top destination management companies including Grand Hyatt Doha, W Doha Hotel and Residences, Renaissance Doha City Center Hotel, La Cigale Hotel, Sharq Village & Spa, Ritz Carlton Hotel, Doha Marriott, Qatar International Adventures, FAL Travelmart, and the Diplomatic Club.

Germany is an important market for Qatar’s expanding tourism industry, as it is Europe’s leading outbound travel market, and already has existing tourism relationships with Qatar on which to build. There is an increasing number of visitors coming to Qatar on cruise ships, stop-over flights, as well as for business purposes. “Qatar and Germany are strong business partners, and we look to complement this in the tourism sector by working with German tourism professionals to promote Qatar as an ideal, upscale travel destination for their annual holiday. The Munich leg of our European Roadshow earlier in the year helped us start that dialogue with top professionals in the industry.”

IMEX is a three-day event staged annually in Frankfurt, dedicated to the MICE industry in Europe and around the world. The event offers a platform for worldwide destinations and organizations to showcase their products and services to hosted buyers and independent trade visitors from all over the world. More than 3,500 exhibitors from 157 countries will attend IMEX 2010, including national and regional tourist offices, convention and visitor bureaus, major hotel groups, airlines, conference and exhibition centers, cruise lines, spa resorts and event management specialists.
