Quebec creates its green events standard

On June 8th, the eco-friendly events council of Quebec will launch its standard in management of responsible events.

Developed by the standardization office of Quebec at the request of the Women in Environment Network, this norm will be used as a reference frame for meeting planners organizing eco-responsible events and will promote Quebec as a green destination for meetings. More than 2 years were required for this standard to see the light of day. In autumn 2007, a preliminary version was written while the standardization committee was created with 20 organizations (meeting planners and eco-responsible experts). In summer 2009, a public survey was conducted about the norm’s contents and in April 2010, the standardization committee voted its last version. Some pilot projects contributed to the feasibility study of the eco-responsible measures in 2007 and 2008, such as the 10^th World Leisure Congress, and last year, 4 projects were used to confirm the standard’s feasibility.
