Following fruitful discussions during the last ICCA congress in November, 3 international convention centres joined forces to create a Global Green Alliance

The Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre ( MCEC), the Arena & Convention Centre Liverpool ( ACC) and the Cape Town International Convention Centre ( CTICC) gave birth to a new era for green meetings. All 3 centres being exemplary in their eco-friendly attitude – MCEC is the first and only ‘6 star green star’ venue, ACC has reduced its CO 2 emissions by half, and CTICC, accredited ISO 14001, has developed the ‘My tree in Africa’ initiative to reduce the centre’s carbon footprint – they aim to promote industry best practices for organising sustainable events as well as green packages. This new entity will surely welcome new members who will share the same sustainable goals. Esmare Van Tonder, International Sales Manager for CTICC comments: ‘with this new alliance, we are setting the bar in terms of eco-friendly venue standards and giving organisers a clear choice of partner organisations that can support their CSR needs’. An initiative to greet at a time where climate change and sustainable development break the news with the COP 15 Copenhagen conference.
