The expected rebirth of the Mamounia
08/09/2009 Morocco
The Mamounia The mythical Moroccan palace will reopen its doors on September 29th. Closed since 2006, the Mamounia has been completely refurbished by the renowned French interior designer Jacques Garcia
Since its inauguration in 1922, the hotel, an elegant mixture of Art Deco and Moroccan architecture, welcomed many famous figures such as Sir Winston Churchill or Alfred Hitchcock who chose the hotel to be one of the settings of The Man Who Knew Too Much. Strategically located just 5 minutes from the famous Koutoubia and Jemaa El Fnaa market place, the Mamounia is composed of 210 bedrooms and suites as well as of 3 ryads spread out over the 8 hectare superb park which stretches out along the XVIII th century ramparts. Jacques Garcia respected the traditional touch of the hotel by harmoniously conciliating zellige mosaics and white plasters sculpted with a high-tech material. Gastronomy will be celebrated in the 3 Moroccan, French and Italian restaurants. Among its new rooms, the Mamounia will unveil the swimming pool Pavilion, 5 bars and a tearoom while the 2,500 sqm spa will be the heart of the palace completed by two tennis courts. Big events will take place in the 300-seat Grand Salon.
