What’s new in the sky?

Summer appears to be the season of connections and agreements among airlines companies.

In Europe, Aegean Airlines has just joined the Star Alliance network, becoming its 28 ^th member. With this cooperation, the Star Alliance network will now cover more than 1, 500 weekly flights to 69 destinations in 27 countries. Business travellers will also benefit from the inclusion of Aegean Airlines in both Star Alliance Convention Plus and Meeting Plus networks. Also in Europe, in early July Alitalia joined the Atlantic joint venture composed of Air France KLM Group and Delta Airlines which was launched in 2009. This coordinated network for customers flying across the Atlantic now adds 20 daily transatlantic flights to 5 U.S. destinations from Rome and Milan Malpensa airports adding up to 250 flights and about 55 000 seats every day.

Alitalia also joined the governance of the joint venture, shared equally among the 3 carriers. Air France also announced the signature of an extensive codeshare agreement with Flybe, one of the UK’s first domestic airlines. Scheduled to take effect by the end of October 2010, this agreement will allow Air France customers to gain access to 45 new routes from France to the UK. Last but not least, TAM Airlines, which joined Star Alliance a few weeks ago, is making the news again with the announcement of a codeshare agreement with Continental Airlines. This will concern several routes within the US, Brazil as well as those between the two countries.
