Marina Bay Sands was the biggest winner, taking home two awards. It was elected Asia’s best MICE hotel, while its sister property, the Venetian Macau, came in third place. The gigantic Singapore business, leisure and entertainment complex (with 2,560 hotel rooms) was also placed second in the category for Asia’s best convention & exhibition centre.
“This prestigious win is especially encouraging in our first year. From the beginning, we pledged to elevate Singapore’s MICE industry to the next level with our extensive industry knowledge and depth of experience”, says Marina Bay Sands President and CEO Mr Thomas Arasi.
After only one year, Marina Bay Sands has already hosted 1,000 events, which have brought together 600,000 participants at its Sands Expo Convention Centre, the biggest facility in Singapore for meetings and conventions. The centre also registered a record occupancy rate for October and November 2010: the fourth and fifth levels were sold out for several weeks in a row.
Furthermore, UFI, the Global Association of Exhibition and Industry, recently gathered at Marina Bays Sands for its 77th congress after 16 years abroad. All of which suggests that Singapore is emerging as a top MICE destination in Asia.
